Product Description In 1859, Charles Darwin published, On the Origin of Species . In it, he argued that all of life on earth was the product of undirected natural processes. Time, chance, and natural selection. Since Darwin, biologists have relied on such processes to account for the origin of living things. Yet today, this approach is being challenged as never before. "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" is the story of top-notch, contemporary scientists who are advancing a powerful idea -- "the theory of intelligent design." Using state-of-the-art computer animation, "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" transports you into the interior of the living cell to explore systems and machines that bear the unmistakable hallmarks of design. Discover the intricacy of a microscopic bacterial rotary motor, which spins at 100,000 rpm. Within the nucleus explore the wonder of DNA, a thread-like molecule that stores instructions to build the essential components of every living organism. It is part of a biological information processing system more complex and more powerful than any computer network. This compelling documentary examines an idea with the power to revolutionize our understanding of life... and to unlock the mystery of its origin.

A well thought out documentary December 2, 2008 I found this to be an exceptional documentary on some of the greatest questions that face humankind. There was genuine curiosity and well thought out scientific examination on the molecular/chemical level. The use of animated graphics brought not only cellular activity, but concepts to life in a palpable way. It is exciting to see the leaps and bounds science has made over the last two decades - very impressive. This video, when shown to young children, will excite their desire to explore and study life through the sciences. It is like a breath of fresh air against the stale-dated philosophies that have become redundant in many of our schools. I recommend this video to anyone who has an interest in exploring science and becoming updated on the new discoveries that are being made in molecular, biological and chemical areas. If the last time you thought about science was in high school - this video will be a pleasant surprise! The only dissapointment is that Unlocking the Mystery of Life is only one video, and not a part of a series. Congratulations to all the professors who made this documentry possible- job well done!

Nothing scares me more than the fact that I live in a world where people smirk and roll their eyes at the words 'intelligent design'. The idea that the world and complex living organisms show evidence of....(gasp!)....intelligent design is so 'beyond the pall' it can get you fired, blackballed, thrown out of a university and labeled a moron. This is a crystal clear presentation of the dazzling complexity of life, the mind-boggling inter-relatedness in which one part cannot accidentally arise independently of numerous other parts without forethought and design. Irrefutable.
For thinking people September 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We all grew up having unproven scientific ideas shoved down our throats, this DVD makes us look at the real facts and challenge us to listen to some very smart people. I loved it!

Very interesting topic. Apart from those who want to believe what they want to [regardless], any open and fair minded person who have to acknowledge the logical and persuasive argument that is propounded in this DVD. Of course, the evolutionist will bleat that intelligent design is "bad science"! But I have yet to hear a comparable presentation supporting evolution, where the protagonist is not as biased and dogmatic as those who likewise try to convince us that God made the universe and all it contains in just seven 24-hour days. Neither camp is truly objective and free from their own myopic agendas. At least this DVD is refreshingly different and balanced. It doesn't try to "tell you what to believe", but allows you to draw your own conclusions.
Holistic Science May 9, 2008 This was a refreshing update on recent biological scientific discoveries from highly credentialed sources. The beauty, complexity and evident order in the design of living organisms cannot but have a compelling effect upon open minded researchers. The film emphasized that true science must follow the latest evidence. I was impressed by the testimony of accredited scientists who were formerly big believers in evolutionary biology. It took courage & humility to revise their conclusions in light of new findings. Survival of the fittest doesn't explain the arrival of the fittest. Holistic science shows the Darwinian approach to be outdated and inaccurate. This leaves religion and all its hypocrisy out of the picture and simply shows the imperative of a very impressive designer.
