4 out of 5 stars Disappointed in lack of subtitles   October 15, 2008
I use this series in EFL classrooms in Japan. I was very disappointed to see that Season 2 does not come with any subtitles and even though the package claims to have CC there is none. The Season 1 DVD had English subtitles so I wonder why this very useful feature was not included this time around.

5 out of 5 stars 30 days to Change how you Think   October 4, 2008
Morgan Spurlock has done it again with this second season (and season one) of 30 DAYS. These shows put the real in "realality" TV. It opens the eyes of people who are set in their own beliefs and then is able to open their minds to a new way of thinking. Spurlock should be the one that everyone ought to be watching . . . It can make you a better person by opening up your eyes while learning about other people's lives through "walking in their shows" method. A MUST SEE! For Everyone.

1 out of 5 stars Spurlock the Far Left   September 11, 2008

I enjoyed "Supersize Me" and the first season of 30 days, but this one is a political exercise to feel sympathy for those who are more misfortunate than us and to feel guilt for our own successes. It is highly slanted to the left. If you like Michael Moore's movies than you may like this.

The episodes were
"Immigration" - About the hardships of a family of illegal Mexicans living in the US.
"Outsourcing" - About the hardships of an Indian family that takes the job of an American.
"Atheists" - Atheists are looked down upon when they try to promote their views like removing the word "God" from the dollar.
"New Age Medicine" - A man reaps the benefits of strange New Age Medicine.
"Pro-Choice" - A Pro Choice woman lives in a house that helps needy mothers who chose to raise their child instead of abortion.
"Jail" - Spurlock spends 30 days in Jail and befriends some of the inmates who seem to be good people that are being horribly treated in jail.

For me, this series really lost its documentary feel and entertainment value. The last episode summed it up for me. The whole episode was geared towards the idea that crimals live in horrible conditions and the system doesn't work. Spurlock gives no solution to fix the problem or how to pay for the improvements. In his last days, Spurlock and his friend were transferred to a much improved dorm like facility. Both of Spurlock's friends were released and shortly after committed multiple crimes to return to jail. How about some sympathy for the poor families of the victims of those crimes?

5 out of 5 stars Reality TV Worth Watching   July 7, 2008

Very poignant subject matter. It may not be the most popular show on television but it definitely represents reality television that is WORTH watching. While most shows choose the lighter side of reality and the shock factor provided by "Story Editors" (i.e. The Real World, Flavor of Love), 30 Days offers education and entertainment while maintaining the enthralling Documentary feel. The jail episode was especially intriguing and glad to see they depicted it on the box art!

Look forward to Season 3.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting viewpoints and a good look at life itself   June 20, 2008

Like most Spurlock's endeavors, this series' first season creates a familiar setting most of us can relate to. Whether it's an issue (sexuality, drinking, religion, minimum wages, etc.) within our own lives, or our family or friends, Spurlock delivers an honest viewpoint about the concerns of our day. I am looking forward to the 2nd season of this series.
