Product Description TELL, more than soldiers, fighters and patriots. An award winning documentary. Ever present in the media and in the minds of many people in the U.S. today, are stories about the military and it s role in the world today. As concerns are raised about the ability for ongoing preparedness of our Armed Forces, once again the question of the don t ask, don t tell policy started well over a decade ago that banned Gays & Lesbians from serving openly in the military, is being debated. Director TOM MURRAY adds a human face to the debate as he set out across the country to talk with Gay & Lesbian veterans and their allies, about the struggles faced by dedicated and patriotic Americans who want to serve their country, but can only do so while not being honest about who they fully are. Wide ranging in age and experiences, the participants and their stories are a candid and fascinating look at this timely topic.

Looking at the Military

It seems that the topic of gays in the military is always in the news. Just as newsworthy is the role of the military in the world today. Being at war with Iraq brings this even closer to home. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is again a hot topic and it seems to be that there is an ongoing debate. "Tell" is director T Joe Murray's documentary is a series of fourteen plus interviews with gay military veterans and their allies. "Tell" gives a face on the military controversy of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and shows how it affects each GLBT person who wants to serve his country. This is an award winning film as it shows the struggles that dedicated Americans (who happen to be part of the GLBT community) face. The gays, lesbians and Trans people are forced to lie in order to serve the country that they love. Murray shows us a cross section by interviewing people of different ages and he gives us a deep and fascinating look at the entire issue. This candid and honest look at the situation will open eyes and fosters understanding of this issue which will not go away. This timely film is important because it says so much that has not been verbalized before.
Surprisingly Good August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Found this on Amazon (nowhere else). We host a gay film night once a month at our home and are always looking for something interesting. Took a chance on this and are VERY glad that we did. Articulate men and women sharing the experiences they had serving their country, and then being told that they weren't good enough due to their sexual orientation. Pretty straight forward(pardon the pun)in style, pretty much talking heads, but the stories are very important. Well worth the money and terrific viewing for groups.
